Ah yes. Reminds me of one of my very first bosses a long time back. Big white dude from Alabama. He had some pretty "colorful" language for Blacks that worked in the organization, and for Jews. Eventually--quite a number of yeas later when certain words in the workplace were no longer tolerated and resulted in big fines--he was fired. Even then he went out in a tirade saying HE didn't find those words offensive, so if it bothered "Them" (not the words he used but I'd get points for them here) they should just quit. It wasn't fair that he was the one fired.

He said the one thing reminds him of the other thing. That is not the same as saying they are on the same level.

I see a book of matches and I'm reminded of forest fires (there used to be a series of public service commercials w/ Smokey the Bear once upon a time). They are not the same thing.

In Old-T's example I suspect the one reminds him of the other because he views both words as pejoratives -- designed to minimize another or offend.
