Check their drivers licence. Thier licence states they are law enforcement.

Absolutely correct. A friend of mine used to work vice, and he had 5 different Nebraska driver's licenses...........

No matter what anyone believes (urban legend) or has read, or what they've been told statute prohibits LE from doing (something specific they can't do because it is illegal) - they're wrong. In fact, the Supreme Court says UC LE can do pretty much anything, legal or otherwise, in furtherance of their investigation if it furthers the investigation or protects the officer's safety - they've even murdered to protect their identity at the Federal level - and the Supreme Court also says you have no right to Miranda if your statements are made to a UC . . . the bottom line is that there is no "cop check" - at all.
