Can Trump pull off the deal of the century?

As one has pointed out, Russia wants all of Ukraine bit by bit just like the way the Russian Empire conquered the Siberian mongol/tartar empire of the east, bit by bit.

Fair enough TxDot. I disagree.

If memory serves me correctly, Kim didn't launch any intermediate or long range ballistic missile tests after scheduling his meeting with Trump in Singapore. That didn't happen again until well into Biden's term. So yeah, based on that Trump figured he had a shot with Russia. And to his credit he took it.

Foggy Bottom's just not motivated to try to achieve clarity or compromise, as you put it, with Putin or Kim. Not only does the same sanctimony pervade the State Department as Biden's White House, but a lot of people at State, the Department of War and the intelligence services could find themselves without jobs if we got friendly with pariah countries. North Korea and Russia have not changed a single thing about their nuclear or foreign policy stances while Trump or Biden has been in charge.

The only thing that Trump has done by meeting with Kim Jong Un or Putin has been to put on a show while undercutting his own career diplomats and gutting the state department of the hard won experience and relationships gained over many decades of diplomatic work.
