No real hostility intended, but I hate people like you at the table. Why are you worried about telling other people how/where to bet their money? Screw your chi... don't be that guy that tries to dictate where I place my own damn money.

But, even though I know the math says otherwise, I do the same thing when I bet the don't pass. I don't place odds, just the flat bet.

The El Dorado in Shreveport lets you place 100x odds, just FYI. Originally Posted by CarolineDavenport

if it's a group that is getting inside my head, i will either ask nicely or sometimes, i will flip my bet. as they say, if u can't beat em, join em. but if i cant get the energy right and its bothering me, honestly i just pass the dice or go take a break.
but ur very impressive! got a good head to go with ur smokin hot body! lol
by the way, did u wanna hear how rory's story ends? if the ayes win, gonna write the Conclusion tonite.

And pxmcc, there is one game in the house (sometimes) that has positive expected value. Video poker. Certain pay tables on certain games have up to something like 100.76% expected value, IF played perfectly, averaged out ad infinitum. Very few people actually manage to make a living at it, but it does happen. Originally Posted by CarolineDavenport

I'm not going to lie, I could take or leave your story because I've heard better ones on gambling forums, and been present for a few that could rival it. A couple of the things you've said made me giggle, like the Cortez being impressed by your measley 7k. ANY casino in Vegas, even the downtown locations (my preference as well... I'm a fan of the Nugget) sees that much money multiple times on a daily basis, it's a non-event. They were probably just making side bets on how fast the new blood would lose his ass. They also get concerned with mid-range gamblers they've never seen before, because those are the ones that get crazy and possibly violent when they do eventually lose it all. Also, Benihana is not really expensive. :P

Your obsession with the votes is a bit irritating. Either finish the story or don't, but stop pestering people to vote. It looks attention-whorish.

And I can't teach you to play video poker. I'm not a grinder like that. There are plenty of sites that will teach you how to play... but you need to get really, really good at remembering all the little intricate contingency strategies. I don't have that kind of patience. And when I say that people make a living at it.. I mean people with $1M+ bank rolls who make $50k/yr grinding for 10 hours a day, 5 days a week at quarter machines. Not my idea of fun. Probably not yours either.

You guys and gals are assuming the house is playing straight and not cheating.
Why cheat and risk your license when the edge is already in your favor? All they have to do is offer the games and let the money roll in.

Risk the license? In Vegas maybe but in all these other Podunk places an envelope with some cash is all it takes.

finally, the story is only as good as it is. are there better stories? sure. are there worse stories? sure. if it sucks too bad, just say no, u don't want to hear the ending. that's fine; that's why i asked.
so could u give me a yes or no? if no, just say it. we're all adults here. i'll still respect you in the morning. lol.

as to how many people sit down at the roulette table at the Cortez with over 7000 in chips, you think it happens all the time; i think it almost never happens. i think you are confusing what happens downtown with what happens on the Strip. i think we agree to disagree. let's leave it at that. im open to the possibility that you might be right, and if so, i stand corrected.

as to video poker, optimal play producing a positive expectation value seems a little hard to believe. if true, an MIT or CAL-TECH team will be on that faster than flies to shit. so my assessment is sounds implausible, but stranger things have happened.

yes. dice players refer to throwing as shooting. the person with the dice is called the 'shooter.' Originally Posted by pxmcc

The reason MIT or Cal-Tech geniuses don't get in on that action is because usually these are quarter machines... so you have to grind away hour after hour, day after day, month after month before you see any profit. Like I said... these people are making 50k a year doing this as a full time job. Why would a math whiz waste their time? Counting cards? Sure, there's usually at least a $5 minimum, $500 maximum... you can make some serious cash quickly. But video poker on a quarter machine? Not a get rich quick scheme. There was a story about a casino back in the day that accidentally put a positive expectation payout table on a $5 machine and a guy took a huge amount of money from the place before they caught on. Hasn't happened since.

For future reference, I try not to ever post anything without verifiable evidence. Keeps me from looking like an idiot when I get called on the floor. Try to do some research before you go questioning my posts. It'll save you some heartache.
