The etymology of the term 'cat herding' goes back to the early spa days, my friend ran several locations, she would complain about the girl's waywardness. A much younger Father Wayward, likened it to herding cats. In that you could open their food and they would come as if called, however absent the lure of something they liked calling them was an exorcise in frustration and humility.

This same premise can be applied to the hobbyist in the wild as well. It is sad that we are the only truly sane one in this thing of ours.
