A coalition fighting force of 100-150k would be needed to try to take back Afghanistan, and it would be 5 more years of war. We did what we could, these people are on their own. The areas taken over in the last few months were contested areas. It isn't like they were solid won territories. The taliban was pretty beat down ten years ago at about 20% of the size it is today, about the time we took out Bin Laden. The war should have ended there, and largely it did a few years later as major operations were shut down. During this time to 2021 is when the Afghan people should have risen up and drafted a military of 1 million or more able bodied men and women. That didn't happen so it is too late for them now.
