This small restaurant is only open Saturdays and Sundays -- and you have to make a trek down C.F. Hawn Freeway till you get to Lake June Road, and then drive down a dusty unpaved road. And you have to go early, because sometimes the kitchen runs out of barbacoa y consome -- another good reason for coming here.

Owner Sanchez sears huge hunks of lamb over smoldering wood. Then meat is roasted for nine hours, over a bed of chickpeas that collects the dripping juices. When he's done, the lamb is fall-apart tender, and the chickpeas have evolved into a hearty stew. Together they make for one of the most soulful meals you'll find in Dallas. And one of the cheapest.

A hole in the wall...great prices and they have daily specials that are original and Delicious.

The have the best Ceviche I have ever had. They only serve it on Fridays and Sundays. I call to have them save me one when I know I am going to go because they only make a few each time. It is AMAZING!

Cajun food doesn't lend itself to fast food restaurants. Back home, the little cafes had three or four items on the menu de jour.
The best Cajun food in the metro comes out of my kitchen. I used to cook for the women. People fight over my Jambalaya and gumbo. Women would ask me why I hadn't cooked for them at the old ASPD happy hours. Tell me they talk among themselves.

Anyone know where to get a decent L.A style pastrami sandwich? Not the east coast ny deli kind but the big fat greasy kind on a sub with lots of mustard and pickles?

Has anyone tried meshacks bbq in garland? I found it on yelp and went by but they were sold out. It sure did smell good but im wondering if anyone has tried it?

Contribution: Slab's BBQ in Mesquite. If near you, try their sausage. Not the best BBQ ever but better than most chains I have been to.

Jules, I just ate their a couple Fridays ago for the first time. It was good, however be prepared for the poor parking, and you have to wait for your order outside with no shade. I went there shortly after they opened at 11AM, 6 people in front of me and I waited for about 25 minutes and sweated out my shirt standing in the hot sun. It is a small shack and you place your order through a window, and they call your order out and you pick it up from that same small window. I had ribs and sliced brisket and it was very good.

Meshack's is both awesome and a cool experience. It feels like you're a secret agent passing secrets during the Cold War as a faceless voice takes your order and then slams the little door behind the screen porthole shut until the next bag of good BBQ goodness comes through it.

Definitely worth a stop.

Meshacks is highly regarded bbq ...right up there with pecan lodge, slow bone and lockhart.
