these papers were influential during their heyday, now they are 3rd rate players just playing 2nd fiddle to the tv media.

i would disagree - NYT and WacomPost are print media - but also computer and hand-held media .

IMHO they are part of the LSM along with the cable and tv channels.
True- newspapers are read much less today - and may be going the way of the dinosaurs.

That is the nature of progress.
