I heard one worse than that .... years ago from a fire dept haz-mat instructor .... who stated he trains his firefighters to stop about 500 yards from a hazmat scene, take out their binoculars, and watch the law enforcement officers going to the location of the hazardous material .... if they don't drop dead it's safe to go.
