If it were legal for girls to be truly independent and not be subject to brothel rules, I would be for legalizing it. But government would want to control it all, and they would find ways to add taxes. Government can't keep its money grubbing hands off anything. Much like they have done by allowing vices like the lottery, casino gambling, and the sale of alcoholic beverages. It's a politicians job to figure out a way into someones wallet. However allowing sex workers to operate legally would bring in a lot of tax revenue as in the cases of world famous Red Light Districts in Amersterdam and Frankfurt Germany. At those Red Light Districts clientele don't have to show their ID's and can remain anonymous. Ladies are also regularly tested for STD's to ensure public safety as it should be.

I can potentially see the sex work industry lowering crimes against women if it were legal but how would legalizing such save marriages? I do believe the top two reasons for divorce in America revolve around sex and money issues.
