It sounds like she was a nice girl in a bad situation. I wouldn't break the rule, but I would be patient and leave her a reassuring message and maybe it will work out ok for you. If she thinks she's already burned that bridge, you will probably never see her again, if you give her the chance to make it up, you may come out ahead in the end. It would better than money wasted.
