It's not just the speed, it's idiots not paying attention. If I had a nickel for everytime I saw some dickwad come over from the far left lane to exit right, cutting everyone else off in the process, I'd have bought the Bunny Ranch by now. Originally Posted by corona

Traffic in Dallas has gotten much worse over the 45 years I’ve been regularly in town. Same with almost all US cities. Lack of investment in public transportation and subsidies to automobiles.
Traffic + TX drivers being trash at driving has made commutes feel 2x longer

And if you want REALLY insane driving, try Sao Paulo... where street signs are optional suggestions.

They're building apartments and houses without updating the roads, not to mention all the people from other states landing in the DFW
I've driven every mile of the IH -35 corridor from the southern border with Mexico to the northern border with Canada. (Not all at once.) Every inch of the IH-35 corridor is fucked, because:

In 'Murica, we HAVE THE GOD GIVEN RIGHT TO:

1. Large assed dualie p/u's that get 8 mpg at best;

2. Driving like nobody else's life matters;

3. $2.00 or less per gallon gasoline (or diesel)

When I was a young man, I spent an extended time in then West Germany, where driving was:

1. A privilege, not a right;

2. Expensive as hell (cost of car, going to a private driving school, getting insurance, gas at $4.00 USD back in the 80's);

3. Traffic laws were enforced, no exceptions. My cheap fun was to get on the AutoBahn and watch some newly imported GI from the states take his "muscle" car out and not yield the lane to twin turbo Porsches, BMWs, and the occasional Ferrari. They'd get pulled over by the Polizei faster than you can say, "Schnell!" and try to argue with the West German AutoBahn Polizei. If I stayed local long enough, I would see the juvenile offender get released the next day with a lot of "pavement kisses" on his face, his car towed to the impound lot WHILE IT WAS IN GEAR, and having to walk back to base and explain to his CO why he was AWOL.

Stupid behavior had consequences back then. Not it just gets you promoted / elected.

We have a fucked up Interstate system because big, dark money PACs buy our politicos like the cheap POS's they are. It's all good money, buying newer, bigger cars we don't need, buying gasoline that is subsidized by taxpayers monies to keep the price artificially low, and multibillion $ cost + contracts to build Interstate improvements that just push the traffic out further and further. Everybody's getting rich off our meth head addiction to our cars.

Including myself in that meth head addiction. I drive a limited edition, turbocharged four door coupe with a manual six-speed transmission and three pedals on the floor, made in Germany. The lowest octane it will run on is 93, and it was de-tuned for the US market. The original German version requires 110 octane. For the model year, there were two imported to the State of Texas, and I have one. I'm just sad that there's no Interstate in the US where I can floor the accelerator and keep it there as long as I want. I'd have to export it back to its country of origin to do that.

To the OP's point, we have to stop the stupid from reproducing, enforce our traffic laws (no drinking, driving, killing, repeat as often as you like), and offer a viable alternative to cars as primary transportation like (fucking socialist communist pinko gay pedophile) light commuter rail. It can be fun! If you haven't seen Bullet Train with Brad Pitt and Bad Bunny, see what fun a Japanese Bullet Train can be!
