WHO IS YOUR FAVORITE ALL TIME BAND?

Just one band? Hmmmm I enjoy so many and have been to more concerts than I can count!

Well I've seen TOOL 22 times and AC/DC 10 times but my favorite singers of all time are Robert Plant and Maynard James Keenan. I saw Robert Plant and Jimmy Page in 1999 I think it was at the Gorge in George Washington which if you ever get a chance to see a concert there it's an amazing outdoor experience right on the Columbia River. I actually saw Depeche Mode there as well as many others, from Pantera to Tom Petty.

I just saw Metallica at VooDoo Fest in New Orleans and they still got it like nobodies business. It was my first time seeing Robert Trujillo with them. I could teach them a thing or two about headbanging over there lol.

Best concert in Austin; Joe Cocker at the old Backyard; up close to the stage, three feet away; amazing voice after all these years...

I'm torn...I'm also old, as you'll see from my choices.

Best band: Queen, while Freddie Mercury was still alive.

Best album: Fleetwood Mac, Rumours.

Best concert: Chicago, Saturday in the Park, circa 1977. Over a hundred thousand people rocked old Soldier Field. The band played for three hours; unquestionably the best concert experience I ever had.

Best live band is Rush - seen them 7 times now. Best one was at the Cow Palace in 1991 - Roll the Bones tour.

Wow the Cow Palace! I saw Ozzy and AC/DC there, lost a contact lense at Ozzy grrr.

Don't forget Def Leppard & Tesla in 1994 at the Cow Palace - the stage was in the center of the Cow Place. Also, Earth Wind and Fire 1982 at the Circle Star Theater in Redwood City.

I saw Tom Petty in concert and right before he finished playing, he stopped and told the audience he had a special guest he wanted to introduce. Out walked Bob Dylan. They sang 6 more songs together. 3 Dylan tunes and 3 Tom Petty ones. It was pretty cool.

I'll stick to Austin concerts and venues, just to make all the old farts like me feel at home:

Pat Metheny Group at the Armadillo World Headquarters - his fingers were a blur across the fretboard - if he had been paid by the note, he could have retired right then and there

Dixie Dregs at the Erwin Center, which was ingeniously called the Special Events Center at the time. The name change to Erwin Center was not widely considered to be much of an improvement. The Dregs rock!

REM at Club Foot - a dance club in the early days of the warehouse district, back before REM was big enough to play in concert venues. Michael Stipe had to stop in the middle of a song to tell the crowd to stop moshing on the dance floor because someone might get hurt

Bow Wow Wow also put on a kick-ass show at Club Foot, and Annabella Lwyn was such a sex kitten at the time. I think she's a born-again Christian now.

Pretenders at the Austin Opry House - Chrissie Hynde in her prime

Patrice Pike and the Black Box Rebellion, unplugged at Shady Grove. I was seated behind a row of young ladies who seemed more interested in playing tonsil hockey with each other than listening to the concert. Oddly it didn't detract from the killer music, just added a decadent sort of ambience.

Trout Fishing in America at Serrano's on Red River, also saw them at a place in Pflugerville called Hanovers - Ezra joked that when he first heard that they were booked there, he thought it was called "Hangovers"
