X a trusted news source ?

winn dixie's Avatar
Pretty much the only news source out there who allows diverse opinions. If you’re left or right and don’t want to hear the other side of a story then X isn’t for you. If you’re a free thinker who wants to hear differing views then it’s the place to be. Originally Posted by Jacuzzme

Nothing wrong with evaluating all available information and drawing conclusions. What you’ve linked to is a patently ridiculous conspiracy theory, on par with 911 truthers. You should put together a podcast with Alex Jones. You guys are made for each other.

X, formerly twitter is not a news outlet. They are not journalists and have no code of journalistic ethics or integrity.

They can’t even follow their own rules and policies. Elon Musk breaks them all the time.

Yeah, X has really changed quite a bit since their operations team stopped taking orders from the DNC.

Kinda like …

I don't know if I would have gone there with the # of posts you have.

Everyone knows journalism has declined with the explosion of outlets and need to get viewers.

The worst part may be the headlines that attempt to grab your attention.

Starting a cable network in the 70s was a way to make your fortune. And now even that Era is dying a slow death.

Well, it appears that many have already found a couple of more preferable options than MAGA X... Instagram's Threads seems like it would be an easy transition since many people are already on both X and Instagram. Of course, neither are actual news sources but obviously some believe social media outlets are for whatever reason.

X not exactly seen as becoming the # 1 trusted news source, as some have suggested.

The Guardian news organization exits X.

It added: “The US presidential election campaign served only to underline what we have considered for a long time: that X is a toxic media platform and that its owner, Elon Musk, has been able to use its influence to shape political discourse.” Originally Posted by VitaMan

Only way I see Musk "shaping" discourse is by allowing it. More importantly - not censoring it on government demand. Which is rather what the 1st Amendment commands. In essence, X is just there for others to connect and exchange ideas and No Virginia, everything you read on the internet is not always true.
Section 230
47 U.S.C. § 230

..."No provider or user of an interactive computer service shall be treated as the publisher or speaker of any information provided by another information content provider." (47 U.S.C. § 230(c)(1))...
In a nutshell, it's a platform not a publisher = true, but either can be toxic, hence all the olde guard narrative peddling publishers being reduced to ashes these days.

The funny thing here is that Trump knowing and understanding the shift, was able to leverage it to great effect, while the Dems stuck with the old guard in Pravda media manipulation, censorship and endorsing celebrities.

It used to be that we could think what was printed in a newspaper was true or they couldn't print it. Those days are long gone. The NY Times and the Washington Post, ampng others, have seen to that. The online platforms have little or no editoril overight . . .which is fine with me . . .but we know that when we read someone's post there . . . or here on tis forum for tht matter.

My point is that each of us must now bring our own judgement to bear and critically evaluate what we read each day. Walter Cronkite used to wind up his nightly news broadcast with, " . . and that's the way it is . . ."
, and that is what we believed to be the case.

It is a new world in terms of what used to be called "the news".

Completely different these days from the past. The decline of print media, magazines, newspapers. The incredible effort it takes these days to get subscribers. The rush to be first to publish a story, even if it is incorrect.

It is obvious.

That asshole can’t leave the country fast enough. Elon could duct tape her retarded, racist ass to a rocket and blast it off to Jupiter as far as I’m concerned. The world would be a better place.
