Most standard carriers do not allow this practice. In addition, the titled owner can still be sued for any accident involving their vehicle regardless of whether or not they were driving. If they don't have that vehicle insured on their own policy when that occurs...they're screwed.

If she has liability on her car that's in the shop then she's okay. If the car owner's policy allows permissive use and she has a wreck, the car owner's policy pays the claim and then his insurer files a claim against her liability to recoup their losses.

The bottom line is that anyone that can be connected to any vehicle by even the thinnest thread can be held liable for anything involving it. The deepest pocket always takes the hit.
