I can understand Nuglet's concerns 100%. I have been to a few and have had a great time. It takes work and planning to organize these things. Kudos to CK for doing this.

I no longer attend because it's too close to where some of my RW friends work and they happy hour there too from time to time. I now prefer to do my hobbyists/provider meetings via my Twin Peaks happy hour/ dinners.

I have no doubt the employees know what's up.

Besides, how would I explain to my RW friends that they can't come to the social area if I ran into them? Which is a possibility because they do happy hours at that location on a pretty regular basis

I'll be there as always. Love visiting with my providers and board friends in a nice relaxed environment and getting to know everyone. I've had so amazing conversations about business there as well as just funny as hell stuff. Looking forward to seeing everyone again and you of course Katie, I can't ever see enough of...

For those with an inquiring mind.....

If I run into anyone from my RW circle(s) I simply say a group member gave me an invite because he (not she, in my case) thought I might have an interest. So, "here I am, just checking it out."

Everyone on the invite list knows in advance which "civilian" venue is being used and I tell all who ask (sometimes even if they don't ask) to be discrete and if the venue is a familiar haunt for them, to NOT risk any RW questions by attending. We have other, non-announced events in more private places. I specifically caution all who do attend to avoid making any of our venues a familiar haunt.

As for all other "issue" questions.... yes, more than 2 years ago there was (in a city 200 miles from Austin) an event in which a dozen attendees of the more than 135 attendees were way less than discrete and simply put, not following the event rules which caused those few people some very embarrassing issues. The other 100+ in attendance were not compromised.

Event rules since then were reinforced (not just in the distant city, either) and venue adjustments were made as well. I am confident that event organizers are doing things right - and the basis for my judgment is that no "issues" have surfaced since.

There's never a "perfect" venue nor a "perfect" event.

But the organizers I know (myself included and I have been organizing and hosting event since 2001) do the best they can.

Regular events are held in more than a few cities across Texas (and in other states, too) in which vouched members in those communities who "meet & greet" have a great time and then disperse until the next scheduled event.

Today's HH looks to have a great turnout. We had more than 50 folks at lunch in SA yesterday! The SA happy hour will be Tuesday, July 24.

Reminder: invite vouching is not "instant" so for those with an interest attending, start the process by sending me a PM.

(As I always note, this meet and greet is in no way sponsored by nor connected to eccie.net nor to any other hobby board although these very generously allow bandwidth to announce our continuing local events.)
I would love to go , am I too late

Yes there's a risk. Almost anything in the hobby has a risk.

There are some benefits to meeting people in a non BCD situation like this. There are some risks, too.

There are risks with visiting a provider.

There are risks with visiting this web site.

There are risks with real world dating. Even higher risks with marriage.

Don't get complacent in any of these activities.

Vouching closed noon Monday. The next HH is 6 weeks hence. But the next informal lunch is much sooner. "Informal events" are not announced in public.

Amazing turnout considering the weather and traffic issues and almost 50/50 ratio.

Many new faces!

Stay tuned for the August announcement and this summer's "limited editions" lunch events.
