Vinyl nerds?

There was a store on west grey in river oaks shopping center. I can't remember the name , they lost their lease and the owner said they were going to relocate. Anyone know if they have resurfaced?

I used to buy from htfr.com (UK), Satellite (NY), Juno (UK) & GEMM all throughout the 00's. Also used to go to buy from Bill's (crazy whack, he is) as well as dropped $$$ at Core on a weekly basis in Dallas when I lived there.
As of 5-10 years ago-- I've been using the marketplace at discogs.
Haven't bought any records in about 5 years though.

I buy a lot from gemm. And discogs. Still working on posting my collection on discogs.

Good news! Found that Bowie album I was after at Black Dog just a bit ago. $12! Couldn't beat it. It's obviously a late 70s reissue, but I'll take it.

Hi Res1980 - I have a mint copy of David Bowie's the rise and fall of Ziggy Stardust and the spiders from Mars. You are welcome to have it for free. Just PM me and we can work out the transfer.
Vinyl is great - creams CDs for sound quality and only now with high res downloads are we getting close to the sound of analog.

funny you are looking for a copy of Ziggy Stardust, last housecleaning I threw it out along with all my other old albums. It's ok, they were overplayed and warped.

I have about half of my old vinyl collection ( The half my ex let me have after the big D). Mostly from the late 60s, early 70s. What I miss most about vinyl is the covers. Many of them were works of art and quite creative. Santana 1, Thick As A Brick, Some Girls, Sgt. Pepper and Abbey Road are a few examples. Does anyone remember the Beatles hoax about Paul being dead? We scoured the covers for the clues they put on the covers and in their music. Played Revolution #9 backwards where it said " See Me Dead Man" over and over.

Oralist - you absolutely right on the artistic album covers.
* Thick as a Brick was styled as a newspaper called the St Cleve Chronicle. You open the cover and have 11 pages of "news"
* The Rolling Stones Sticky Fingers album had a photo of jeans complete with zipper. Their Satanic Majesties request album was color 3 D whose picture changed when the viewing angle changed.
* Just about all of the Moody Blues albums had great art work.
* Cheap Thrills from Big Brother and the Holding Company was cartoon based with 17 different illustrations on the cover.

Good stuff. Wish I had held on to some of the black light posters, Nuru jackets, paisley shirts etc. from that era. Really a creative time.

So did Iron Maiden. My favorite vinyl is Celtic Frost "Into Megatherion."
It has a gatefold cover with HR Giger artwork.
You can find some cool vinyl at Half Price Books. They have some jems buried in there.

Old Jefferson Airplane covers were good. Cheap Thrills was illustrated by Robert Crumb, of Zap Comics fame. Jethro Tull's first album, Standup, had the band members stand up ( like present day kiddie books) when you opened the cover. Dave Mason's first album (post Traffic) had multicolor vinyl. Only one I have seen. DVDs sound better, but I miss the cool covers, etc.

The J Geils Bloodshot album was made of red vinyl. I forgot about the standup album of Jethro Tull, that was pretty cool.
