Is Sochi safe?

I dont know even as an athlete if I would go. Especially for the nhl players it seems it would be to much to risk.

I agree with the consensus that Sochi feels dangerous and could very well turn into one of the worst terrorist attack locations before this Olympics is done.

Keep in mind that this is the World stage so it is not just the folks mentioned thru the thread that would want to make a statement and the Russians seem to be falling short currently on the Security front. Hope I am wrong.

Yes It is unfortunate that some people do not realize that Czechs/The Czech Republic and Chechnya are totally unrelated to one another and to take that one step furher,.... the Czechs in West are just good ole boys that have been there for about 100+ years plus. Third gen farmers and volunteer firemen. Not in the mix in

I heard yesterday that the Russians have now asked for US support with security, so there will likely be some level of cooperation. I guess Putin figured that if he spurned all offers of help and there was an incident, it would be a PR disaster.

I've also read that it's advisable to avoid Moscow and St. Petersburg. With all the security resources concentrated in Sochi, there is concern that terrorist might focus on tourist attractions in the other cities.

It's a tough challenge... no way would I go.
