Have you ever been in a forest Oebbie Wan? Do you have any idea what a monumental undertaking it would be to mechanically clear he underbrush and old logging slash from millions of forest acres nationwide. This problem has been building for decades through misguided forest management and poor logging techniques.
There have always been forest fires. For eons they were frequent, mostly small and beneficial to the forest ecosystem. They would keep the underbrush cleared out and reducing the fuel source required to sustain a large out of control fire. Also some coniferous species would become extinct without small fires because the fires cause their seed cones to open.
For decades it was common practice to extinguish every forest fire, thus causing the underbrush to rapidly become a problem. Smokey the Bear was too successful. Adding the accumulating logging slash only exacerbated this problem. Eventually the conditions become favorable enough for the fire that it wins. This is what you are seeing now.
This isn't being caused by climate change. Since the beginning of time, The earth's climate has always been changing. Is it now changing at a much faster rate because of the influence of man? It does seem to be the case, but I can't say that for sure. I don't have all the answers on that and I don't think anybody does. Right now I don't believe it should be either totally embraced or totally dismissed.
The one thing I do know is that these large fires are not entirely caused by either side of the political spectrum. There is plenty of blame to spread around here. Attempting to say it is the fault of one side or the other is completely and totally ridiculous.
