It is called Coulrophobia.

I am so freaked out by clowns, I can't even take my nephews and nieces to the circus. About fifteen years ago, some freak in a clown suit thought he would help me with my fear and kept trying to strike up a conversation with me, even after I warned him twice that, "No offense, I find clowns creepy, you are making me uncomfortable, please walk away."

He didn't listen.

The guy walked up and put his hand on my shoulder and tried to debate me about this, and my fight/flight response kicked in and I slammed him to the ground and had grabbed a shovel that was nearby and went to open his head with the business end before two guys knocked me down and took the shovel away--it took two more people to restrain me as I was crazed with fear.

I had no memory of it--just snapped and went berserk. The fear is real and powerful. Now I pretty much avoid being anywhere near an event where a clown may be present--including birthdays--I have to walk the other way when I see them.

The only clowns that scare me are in Congress and the Texas governor's office.

I do not really mind clowns, they sometimes may make me uneasy, at most. However, it is dolls that creep me out. Not the GI Joe or Barbie kind, but those like babies, or kids. I have a couple relatives who collect them, and their houses are full of them. Just standing around, their eyes following you with devious expressions on their faces. CREEPY!

I'm reading this post by Elisabeth today and looking at the replies. Kept looking - waiting for someone to go there. Gave it all day even. Still no one goes there.

So, I couldn't take it anymore.

These definitions and examples are crude and Jr. High but still funny. Hard not to laugh.

For the record, I'm not a big fan of clowns.

Of course, it could get worse as a result of films, media and the such. I don't know. I didn't watch scary movies as a child and that probably helped me. But the thought of kissing a clown, in full makeup, is kindof gross overall.

Although I did have a client once a few years ago that actually was a clown. He went to clown school and taught me how to make animal balloons!

several years ago, a good friend of mine was planning a b'day party for his daughter. i was known as a joker kind of guy, so his wife asked me if i would be a clown for the party. they finally talked me into it, and they got the costume and the wife painted up my face before all the evil little kids showed up. that was one of the meanest bunch of kids i've ever seen. i tried to be a funny entertaining clown, but those mean little fuckers were punching me and trying to pull my clown outfit off. my buddy taped the whole thing, and whenever i drop my him and his wife still laugh about it. even his kids, both grown and married, still remind me of it.
