I LOVE AUSTIN ! I love 78751 and I will not be going anywhere soon.
Austin is a great place to live!....even if rent is an arm and a leg !
Why the knock on someone who rents? There are some very valid reasons to not being tied down to a mortgage. I can def relate on that end. I am just lucky that I will reap the benefits of my house in Austin when it's time to sell. Due to market conditions on my other house with spouse, we are upside down to a shitty marketAgreed, I also own but Texas is one place where renting can make sense. With no income tax and a high property tax renting can be the smart way to go. Austin may be somewhat insulated but the surrounding areas tank when times are tough.

Not all who don't pay rent have mortgages, because they don't live in Austin, and prices are half that of Austin. And taxes are much less. Mine are 1,300 yearly.
