SHMB Addicts / Board Obsession / Intervention? / Maybe just something to think about

I was going down that road a bit myself so I'm taking a break from the hobby and focusing on real life for a while.

That. is. awesome.

Whispers, you forgot

8) Feels a great sense of accomplishment for protecting the innocent and the helpless, even if the threat is mostly imagined.

Might be 3b more than 8, but you get the idea. Originally Posted by Rand Al'Thor

So it was trolling more than personal retrospect? I'm shocked really
i dont spend alot of time reading this board so i guess for me its just entertainment value and occasional Q&A infosharing. i think some people take it too seriously though. i thought this was all about fun, not about starting drama or being a more preferred client to the ladies so they'd pick you over some other guy.

so i guess for me it is just social reading when i am not reading something else online.

I don't feel any sense of "accomplishment" out of taking an occasional stance, it's just that sometimes I do feel that forever remaining silent on outright BS is not much different than condoning that behavior.

I personally think that the absence of casual everyday banter initiated by the ladies on the board will be a net loss to the owners...that some of the more thin-skinned gals have become post shy because of the COED drama that some of the guys here seem to enjoy way too much.

In my year or so on the board I have probably spoke up maybe 4 or 5 times when I thought something was really pretty crappy and unnecessary.

If I recall correctly, one of my first and few comments of a "WTF man?" nature was in response to an attacking post aimed at an outspoken guy that included some disparaging remarks directed at someone that he at one time probably cared for. (he may be a lot of things, but in my mind I wouldn't consider him innocent or hapless)

Apparently, it's been a downhill spiral for me since then.

The post Joel thought was referring to him was about feeling accomplished for coming to others' defense, can't really do that while lurking.

I would like to make a few observations in the spirit of the OP, and hope I do not appear as though I'm picking on any one or any thing:

I have to admit, I'm probably one of those people you are talking about. Originally Posted by PornPet69

I like to read the different opinions - mostly because it opens my mind to angles of thought that I may not have otherwise evaluated. What I don't like to see is people spewing juvenile poison at each other that essentially boils down to "I know you are, but what am I ?" because the thread becomes hijacked and the objective is no longer about sharing ideas and thoughts, but more more about "I'm not going to take this chit".

NOTE THAT THE LADIES ARE NOT VERY PRESENT IN THIS THREAD. AND WISELY SO. THEY KNOW DRAMA IS GOOD FOR THEIR BUSINESS, AND THE TITLE OF THIS THREAD HAS ALL KINDS OF DRAMA POTENTIAL.

In summary, I agree with the OP that the numbered points are worth examining. But I also submit that for us to speak "generally" and to try to say "so and so may be an an addict because he was posing on x-mas and on Easter", is somewhat moot.

Each person needs to decide if they are acting outside the acceptable limits of their lifestyle, and that their loved ones are far better candidates to play intervention because their loved ones know them and their limits far better than this troll here does.
