Dirty's (Dirty Martins) at 28th and Guadalupe, next door to the Whataburger. Greasiest hamburgers ever cooked. Take extra napkins if you go. Car hop service and long neck beer.

I haven't been there since the early 70s. But I fondly remember sitting there drinking super cold beer and great greasy burgers.

I've wanted to try Wild Bubba's Wild Game Grill. If you make over there, let me know what you think. I'll be down that way next week. I went to Hill Country Pasta and Lupe Tortilla on my last visit. Both were fantastic!!

Located in an old Hill Country-style house. Seafood, beef, fine game meats, etc. Very artful presentation. Same owner/chef for 20+ years. Fairly expensive.

For something more suitable for basic chowing down, there's always Kerbey Lane Cafe.

Multiple locations; has been around for many years. Good breakfasts, brunches, sandwiches, Tex-Mex, etc. Always had something of a 1960s-'70s "hippie" aura about it. Avoid peak times if possible; the wait can be long.

In my opinion the Oasis has always been about location. Before the huge expansion it was a quaint nice place to sit and look out over the lake. Now it's so big you run the risk of being nowhere near a lake view. I would call the food average for Austin.

Franklins is OK in my humble BBQ opinion(too salty and cooked to fast, plus wait time), but you should venture down to Lockhart and eat at Blacks, then stop by Kreutz market and take home a pound of their meat. After you get home spend an hour with Gigilicious for some spinner desert. Doesn't get any better than that right there.
