All depends where you hobby as well, States that pay lower wages will of course have a harder time affording higher rates.

Because I was bored, and have indulged in the area before, I just took a quick look on a site at the bay area. Without doing the actual math, I'd say the average is between 4-6. There's listings lower and higher of course.
Given the cost associated with the area, I'm not sure the big bucks touring holds up. I've paid close to 8 a night for a hotel there, compare that to what one costs here. Maybe touring is more about the volume and less about the price.
