It has a central location that allows road trips in either direction -- to Buffalo or Albany (or Utica if one must).

If you are looking for a middle point between Albany and Syracuse, Utica would serve that purpose well.

Who are we kidding? All the upstate cities are rotting from within.

In Uti-crud you would probably post in both Upstate and Albany.
I'd like to know who the idiots are that designated Buffalo as "upstate". We're western NY. Just because we're not NYC or Long Island. You can call that downstate if you want, I'll never call this area upstate. And Utica looks closer to Albany to me, at least on the map. But I don't know how the "upstate" population is distributed. That probably has a bigger impact than the distance.
And it was my birthday last week, but not one BJ to be found. Not feeling the love...

In the beginning when Eccie first came to NY State there was 1 area NYC.

I asked it be split away from the city. they came up with 2 areas NYC & everything else was Upstate.

Not too long ago I convinced Dallas ( with the help of others) to split into a 3rd area, Albany & Hudson Valley.

It was admin in Tx that set up areas.
