The story wasn't squashed and nobody tried to silence social media. The issue has been raised but Macron said they aren't at the point of doing it. People are using tik-tok and other platforms to coordinate "attacks" like during Jan. 6th.
I don't think it would make a difference but it is certainly a line they should be careful about crossing. Social media is a double edged sword but not really a part of my life. I don't think it is a control issue for controls sake. We've all seen the sheer amount of disinformation that be sent out and the speed it can spread. I saw where they were considering calling for a "State of Emergency". I don't know what that entails there.
As riots by immigrants continue to ravage France, the country’s President, Emmanuel Macron, suggested that the government should contemplate controlling and potentially cutting off social media networks during times of civil unrest. His remarks came as his ministers attributed the organisation as well encouragement of rioting and violence to young individuals using platforms like Snapchat and TikTok. The riots started after the shooting of a teenager during a police traffic stop in a Paris suburb.

Like I said, there is enough real shit going on without adding fake shit to the fire. If you are looking at websites that claim story squashing is going on and Macron is trying to shut down social media, you're at a site that says rioters are letting animals out of the zoo.
BTW-The zoo story was debunked 2 days ago.
That's why I include links. It covers my ass if a story changes and provides actual wording/quotes used in the story. Big difference between "tried to silence" and "has discussed".
Sites are now saying that the videos are old and before the riots.
Many credible sites were fooled then.
I find it odd though that this story was squashed after macron has tried to silence social media in france
