6. Patience.
While posting, writing reviews, making appointments, running to appointments when you're late, running to post something bad about a Provider (or Client) when you weren't patient enough to hear the whole story.

These two bits of wisdom have pretty much
got me through life so far, oh yeah, and

3. Always wear clean underwear.
You never know when you might have to
take a trip to the hospital.

Good post TinMan, but I gotta admit 3 & 4 can be a challenge at times.

Several threads caused me to think of this. Ten years on the boards, and I assure you I have violated every one of these rules at one time or another...to my ultimate regret.

1. Don't be judgmental. Remember that you, too, are spending time contributing to a SHMB.

2. Don't preach. The people you are trying to convert aren't going to pay attention to you anyway.

3. I can't tell you the number of times I have finished typing a witty, scathing, memorable-for-all-eternity post, only to pause for a minute before moving on to something else without hitting the "Submit" button. Not once have I regretted that decision.

4. Treat everyone as an adult, even if they aren't acting like one.

5. Don't take the Hobby seriously, but take your personal security and privacy VERY seriously.

7. NEVER hit <submit> while inebriated. This holds true for any board where opinions and reactions to opinions may come into play.

Actually, the rule is don't bump old reviews, mainly because that information can have a pretty short shelf life. This subject is probably a decent one to revisit from time to time.

You're exactly right on the "don't PWI" advice. I can think of quite a few times in the old days how I thought I'd posted an amazingly witty comment after a few too many martinis, only to get the Internet equivalent to chirping crickets in response.

True-true, sir, on both counts.

But we're just so much funnier after a few -tinis...heck, I'm a legend in my own mind!
