Is Abortion and States’ Right Issue to Republicans?

Abortion should not be left open to each state. Its a federal level issue. Abortion should absolutely be legal. Only argument should be to what trimester!
I say legal up till the water breaks.

Hahahshshs!

And I believe the government should not be involved in this decision at all. It’s health care and a decision for the patient and doctor to make. Not the government or the churches.
I'm in favor or abortion rights within limits that I don't care to go into now...but, I have had some experience both personally and professionally. It is repulsive, but unfortunately sometimes a "better" option for the mother. I believe that most who have aborted a fetus live with that decision for life.

What I can't understand is why the whole abortion issue isn't intimately tied to birth control access and education. I once broached the idea of making birth control pills availed over the counter to a group of doctors and virtually every one agreed that the risks were minimal and would support. After all, Plan B is OTC.

I like to fuck young women, and it's surprising how many (even Pros) are not on birth control nowadays. The usual reason is they don't like what the Pill "does to their bodies" or I forget to take them. There are other options, such as IUDs or diaphragms or hormonal implants (matchsticks) that could be used. In some cases, I think the real reason is that "I'd rather spend the money on other "things".

Maybe birth control mechanisms and edcation should be free, or at least not require a visit to the doctor....might save money for the system as a whole.

Lindsay is at least telling the truth of the republican’s position. They don’t believe it’s a state’s right issue at all and never did. Claiming state’s rights was just a means to reach national legislation against abortion as an ends. Everyone with sense knew that. Everyone who claimed otherwise were just lying for the cause I suppose.

“This is not a state’s rights issue. This is a human right issue,” Graham said. “So, no matter what California or Maryland will do … I am going to advocate a national minimum standard.”

“Abortion is not banned in America. It’s left up to elected officials in America to define the issue. States have the ability to do it at state level. And we have the ability in Washington to speak on this issue if we choose,” Graham said at a press conference introducing his bill. “I have chosen to speak.”

On Tuesday, Graham further clarified where he stood on the issue of letting states decide their own laws.

“I do not believe federalism requires me to sit on the sidelines and watch a baby at 30 weeks, 28 weeks be dismembered. I will not do that,” he said.

So now the states and the federal gov can regulate abortions. Or at least that’s what the republicans have sought all along. Good job Supreme Court.

1b1...Democrats should support this measure.

It would mean states like Mississippi and Texas could NOT ban abortion.

I'd like to see it set at 20 weeks....which is what Graham called for a couple of years ago.
No it doesn’t. I means those states can regulate abortion from zero to 15 weeks. It’s an upper limit only. Not a minimum limit. If it actually worked as the rule on abortion I’d have no issue except I agree that it should be a flat 20 weeks for all states.

I think that abortion has been declared to be a state's rights issue by the SCOTUS.

According to the liberal-left-progressives, that alone should make it "settled law" as they have so often said.
With this court there is no settled law. Which is evident by their decision in Dobbs. If they disagree with the reasoning, they can and will modify their decision accordingly.
