Hobby Phones - Where do you hide them?

From a techno challenged member would you mind walking me through a skype set up for an iPhone, Where to start and how to get there.

If you're considering buying a cell phone as a hobby phone, realize that only certain carriers use SIM cards. AT&T and T-mobile use GSM/SIM. Sprint, Verizon and Virgin use CDMA and don't use SIM cards.

SIM cards are great. If your phone gets broken, you can move the SIM card to a new cell phone. You can buy a cheap prepaid phone from the same carrier and move the card over. If you want to upgrade, you can just move the card without any BS about a new term on your contract.

If you have a "spare" phone, put a SIM card in it. Get a $30 prepaid phone at Walmart and use its SIM card in the spare phone. Or get a SIM card from somewhere else. Someone's probably less likely to go looking for the SIM card if there's one in the phone.

Here are a few places.
-Most houses/apartments/rental place have a few boards that are loose, hide it in there. Also once had a chimney once with a loose brick.
----you can also hide it behind the water heater, if u have easy access to water heater.
----in ur bathroom, take out a drawer, and reach in and tape it to the wall or bottom of the sink.
----old electronic equipment that only u seem to use. the place where batterys usually go is a good spot./ bc really does anyone really use batterys for home equipment anymore.
-If you have a work shop, this is the best.
---tool box, ( that locks) and only u have key on ur keyring.
---most sheds have rafters, u can slip it up there..
---broken power tools. alot of them have several hidey holes

- Under dog house. Were all a but of dawgs anyway why not?
-in car, usually fuse boxes have enough room to stick one in.
-take some tape and tape it to the inside firewall of ur car. make sure to move it to either side. the middle might get it a little hot.

I keep mine safely tucked away in mah car. However, I haven't recharge the minutes on it in some time as Google Voice has been just dandy for my hobbying needs.

That is some great info elpocitopolloco! One questions about skype and using a iTouch...I was thinking about buying one of the new Mi-Fi wireless cards (from Verizon or Sprint) and using skype on my iTouch to make calls...would these calls and text be traceable?

My suggestion--why not open P.O box? Nobody except you can open it. And also if you want any porno materials or any other hot stuff you want to buy online,you can ship it to the P.O box..
And please,please,,switch the phone off when you place it in the P.O box..Or else the feds may come after you thinking it may be an explosive device instead of the hobby cops !!

I use Tracfone, it's a prepaid cell phone. If you pay cash and don't register it then it's totally anonymous. I enabled the password feature on it so it's secure if someone finds it. They are also pretty cheap so if it becomes compromised you can just toss it in the trash.

As far as hiding it goes I hide it in plain site. I bought two identical phones. I use one as a hobby only phone and one as a personal cell phone. That way if someone comes across my hobby phone, they just think it's my personal cell phone and since it's password protected they can't see any of the information on it.

Just don't keep both phones in the same place. But even then you can just say that the one phone is your old one that's broke (and even throw it in the trash to prove your point if need be).

I really think prepaid anonymous cell phones are the way to go. That way if you lose them there's no trail back to you.

If you have a SIMM card, you can buy a prepaid phone, set it up, take out the SIMM card and throw the prepaid phone away. SIMM cards are small and pretty easy to hide. You can swap out the SIMM card into your main cell phone when you're making hobby calls.

It sucks hobbying in the greener, surveillance-rich world. While the internet has made hobbying easier, technology has also hurt us. This shit was a whole lot easier twenty years ago. You could get laid for a fair price in any hotel bar and you saw the real package up front. If you struck out there, you had the yellow pages or the back page--real ink on newsprint, not the scag rags like CL and BP.

I don't have this problem, but to my married friends I suggest not hiding it in the house. Even though you may think "she never goes in the ______ room" you're kidding yourself particularly if she has reason to be suspicious. Turned off, password protected in a (non-home) office sounds best to me.

Less related to hiding from the SO, but LE, if you really want to be anonomous make sure to pay cash. At the risk of sounding paranoid, I'd go one step further and have someone else go in to the store and purchase the phone for you and you avoid security cameras.
