If men could get pregnant, they'd get an amendment to the constitution making abortion a basic right.

LOL!

I am no fan of teh Texas 'heartbeat' abortion law

I am no fan of abortion - and wish it was never done- but the reality is - abortion will happen - legal or not.

Legality at 24 weeks is our best compromise - as evidence that neither side of extremists find it acceptable.

I loathe the idea of going back to back alley coathanger abortions - which will happen.

The toll in ruined lives/deaths is hideous from these procedures.

Unfortunately - common sense on both sides has evaporated/

Republicans have their 'heartbeat law'
Commie DPSTs - have ignored teh Hyde amendment - and are sending millions to pay for abortions in foreign countries of non-ameican citizens.

Where is teh Commie DPST outrage - if republicans did that - the DPSTs would rise up in feigned outrage- and their usual hypocrisy! Denouncing such action as a 'racist' republican genocide of 'minorities' overseas.

In reality - it is the Commie DPST who are exporting genocide with their abortion purveyor stand /ideology. Originally Posted by oeb11

I'd add that the Republican Party in Texas seems intent on self destruction. Imposing restrictions on abortion for cases of incest and rape after approximately six weeks is bat shit crazy.

IF this doesn't end abortions in Texas, then it will primarily be a gift to the plaintiff's lawyers. They will sue abortion doctors for $10,000 plus their inflated legal fees for every abortion. These are lawyers who are among the biggest contributors to the Democratic Party.

This is not going to sit well with Millenials. There are many who think like you and I do, and would vote for Republicans if primarily concerned with their pocket books. But instead they'll vote for the Democrats because of crap like this.

The Wall Street Journal had a good editorial on this today, that concluded with

Sometimes we wonder if Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is a progressive plant. His ill-conceived legal attack against ObamaCare backfired on Republicans in last year’s election and lost at the Supreme Court. Now he and his Texas mates are leading with their chins on abortion. How about thinking first?

It's funny to say that an embryo with a primitive beating heart is the qualification for full human life. An earthworm has six primitive beating hearts. I just don't get the rationale unless someone is religious. I mean if you have some metaphysical belief that the soul enters the body when the sperm goes into the egg or whatever it makes sense to pass laws like this. Even then in some religions like Islam the soul does not enter the body until 120 days after conception. A lot of early Christian thinkers had similar concepts.

Anyways otherwise if you are not a religious person and you do not observe that a developing embryo the size of a grain of rice has obviously not reached the sort of quickening that qualifies as a a functional human then it seems like you have a rather sentimental take on human life in its early forms. 2/3 of embryos don't make it to birth as it is just by nature alone. Do you lie awake at night worrying about this?

If this law stands combined with the gun laws and secretly the soliciting laws it will scare a lot of big companies away from Texas. As demand declines for oil and gas Texas will just be one of those backward states at the bottom of every list regarding typical quality of life indexes.

Considering how fiden favors China Uber alles - the DPST party is not only socialist - but a communist totalitarian wanna be dictatorial in perpetuity marxist party. remember how schiff and nadler treated republicans during their Impeachment hearings?
That is the norm for One party uber Alles communist DPSTs

While it may seem I have gone 'extremist' in my criticism of teh DPSTs - their planned destruction of All American Constitutional values deserve every criticism
IMHO!
