Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein again denied ever considering surreptitiously recording President Donald Trump in an effort to oust him after former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe accused him of the plot while on
60 Minutes.Rosenstein’s office released the following statement in response:
“The Deputy Attorney General again rejects Mr. McCabe’s recitation of events as inaccurate and factually incorrect. The Deputy Attorney General never authorized any recording that Mr. McCabe references … There is no basis to invoke the 25th Amendment, nor was the DAG in a position to consider invoking the 25th Amendment. Finally, the Deputy Attorney General never spoke to Mr. Comey about appointing a Special Counsel. The Deputy Attorney General in fact appointed Special Counsel Mueller, and directed that Mr. McCabe be removed from any participation in that investigation.”
The note concluded by highlighting McCabe’s alleged lies to FBI investigators.
“Subsequent to this removal, DOJ’s Inspector General found that Mr. McCabe did not tell that truth to federal authorities on multiple occasions leading to his termination from the FBI,” the Justice Department stated.
Trump also responded to McCabe’s interview, mocking him on Twitter for pretending "to be a 'poor little Angel,'" while actually conspiring against him as "part of an 'insurance policy' in case I won."
During his interview with
60 Minutes, McCabe told journalist Scott Pelley that there were serious conversations about both secretly recording Trump to reveal the chaos in the White House and rallying cabinet members to invoke the 25th Amendment and remove the president from office.
“There were meetings at the Justice Department at which it was discussed whether the vice president and a majority of the cabinet could be brought together to remove the president of the United States under the 25th Amendment,” Pelley
said, referencing comments from McCabe while on "CBS This Morning. “These were the eight days from the Comey’s firing to the point that Robert Mueller was appointed a special counsel, and the highest levels of American law enforcement were trying to figure out what do with the president.”
Finger-pointing DPST's - accusing each other of lying to the FBI.
Will they get equal process to those investigated by Mueller - I do hope so!!!!
