And back to why Ronnie Van Zant was the greatest frontman, band leader, ever. There were 2 songs that the record companies told Ronnie not to record. Those 2 songs are Free Bird and Simple Man. Seems to me that both of those songs did okay on their own.

Tom araya should be higher up on the list. So should rob Halford and lenmy

Freddie hands down is the best singer out of anybody. Glad to see he is number one. Even if I like some of the other bands more than Queen. Originally Posted by Ceremony

Here is the best frontman of all time. He was the boss, he ran the band and told the record executives to go to hell because he was in charge. Originally Posted by capitan1962

Rob Halford is definitely my most favorite queers frontman. It's a miracle he never got aids.
Little surprised no one's mentioned Steven Tyler yet.
And I'm not necessarily anointing him #1. Plant, Jagger, Daltrey. Morrison all in the mix; would throw in the (sadly) now late Chris Cornell as a bit more recent possibility. Van Zant was a great leader of a band that was truly at the top of its game when tragedy struck.

I agree Freddy Mercury was a great singer even though I never really liked Queen, but the best ever? Ronnie James Dio, Bruce Dickenson, Geoff Tate, Don Henley, IMHO are all better singers than he ever was.
Jim Morrison. Mr Mojo Risn. Everyone else pales by comparison.

I have to give Axel Rose his due also but his ego screwed him up but at his height that dude was badass!
Just for pure vocal talent, Steve Perry.

For pure vocal talent in one song, David Coverdale singing "Here I go again".
