Why do providers check other providers ads!

For me the reason would be to make sure no one is stealing your pictures and/or text.

It happens all the time. Just last month a provider stole my text.

Well, don't know about the rest, but on my new website my name and text ARE copyright protected. Although, in practicality, how am I really going to prevent plagiarism? Happens all the time in music, literature, movies, art, etc.

Thank you again, Spirit, you lovely man, and a few other fine fellows, for letting me know when someone's "borrowed" my reputation. It's because of that incident that I started watermarking all my public photos. We as a community do need to look out for each other, because certainly the normal legal channels won't do it for us.

I get a kick out of checking ads. They can be very entertaining. (I try to make mine intentionally amusing.) Some of the stuff I've seen on Backpage makes me laugh, or gape in amazement over the stupidity, and wow, some gals need to take basic English composition classes, and stop using the entire Mark Kay make-up box at one time! But that's not really why I look. Let's be honest: Why does anyone in ANY profession look at other ads?

1. Price comparison. I want to be sure that my rates are in line with the current market value for the quality I offer.
2. Competition. I want to see who else is out there offering a similar service and what I can do to distinguish mine and stand out from the crowd. (And it is getting crowded. When I started, I was one of few "mature providers," but now BP is full of them, and we are seeing more here on ECCIE all the time.)
3. Knowledge. Sometimes I find leads to other sources of advertising and promotion from something other ladies mention in their ads. I also get a feel of what NOT to do based on the reception of some ads.
4. Inspiration. I may see certain graphics or a presentation I like, and it gives me ideas on what to do that's similar but spun in my own original direction, although I'm pretty original in my ads already, and evidently a little bit inspirational. Several girls on BP followed my example and started watermarking their photos.
5. Protection. Yes, I monitor ads to protect my images, my signature writing style, and even my name. I'm the ONLY Fancyinheels, but my goodness, a lot of Fancy-this-and-thats have popped up here and there after me, including one gal on BP that I did go after for calling herself Fancy_Heels. (He ad lasted about a week, and now she calls herself just Fancy, like tons of other ladies.) And like Brooke, I've had whole paragraphs from my site and entire ads copied word for word, and I go after those girls, too, with what limited action I can take. I've noted a lot of the negatives discussed and have tried to help newbies by paying for a "warning" on BP about escort fakes and scams for the last couple of years (since the incident with my stolen photos), updating it as needed. (Yes, again to be honest, the good PR I get from the post comes back to me, although I've had some providers call and cuss me out, even threaten me, for outing their unscrupulous methods.)

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, but when a gal outright steals an identity/image/original copy, that just shows her to have a flatlined personality, zero creativity, and no morals at all. (Funny to use that term in the hobby, but there are standards.) This behavior just screams "Biaaatch." Those women NEED to be reported as quickly as possible for the protection of the gentlemen, too, because, as Spirit pointed out, what kind of experience can a fellow expect from them? It won't be good.
