Another option is just never do anything embarrassing.

Oh, sorry - probably too late for that option .....
Use a a program like eraser which will overwrite the empty space on your hardrive over 100 times. It makes recovery virtually inpossible.
I plan on having a list of the providers and their pics showing on an lcd monitor on my gravesite as a badge of honor:-)

And don't forget all the other things saved on the computer that might cause a ruckus. Like the videos of your wife getting herself off. And having a hobby related email.

When my brother left this world I had to do a little clean up after him. Good thing I had passwords and changed them before she could get into a couple of things. But no telling what she found on his laptop I could not get to.
This thread reminds me of when my father passed away last summer.

He was big into PC's and had a pretty elaborate setup. My mom just used the laptop for solitaire. I was helping mom find pictures to use in the slideshow we were putting together for the wake. I was by myself and just did a full network search for pictures. I had to laugh at myself when 18,000 hardcore (even for me!) pictures/videos were found in one of the network folders.

I laughed to myself, gave a winking nod to dad - and deleted them all. Then did a thorough sweep of his system to make sure there weren't any more surprises mom (who is a SUPER conservative Sunday school teacher type) could accidental stumble on. ;-)
Get this: https://www.ironkey.com/personal-solutions There are also business and corporate setups. It's a secure flash drive that's your best friend. Before you do anything online, put it in your USB and instead of opening the browser from your desktop, open the browser that's installed on the flashdrive. All of your history, cookies and cache will be on the Ironkey and not on your harddrive. It's password encoded and has military grade encryption so noone's getting into it without your permission. After 10 unsuccessful password attempts, it self destructs making all of the data irretrievable. Make sure there is one person you trust who will call IronKey as soon as they hear of your death and it can be remote detonated. Info gone. It's useful for all creditcard transactions, keeping your porn or other personal information off of your PC/laptop. Deathwatch is a good service but I think this option gives you more control. Plus, it's cool-as-fuck. Problem solved.
