Trumps Tax Returns to be made Public

I think the guy would be proud now that he can show those people who got the records released what a business genius he is. Why would he try to hide that? He should be thanking them for *FINALLY* getting his audit out of review after all these years.

Seeing that he is a public figure, withstanding questionable fiscal practices with major financial institutions that could show being compromised, making such records public is understandable. Originally Posted by Precious_b

Pelosi grilled for not releasing her own tax returns

The focus of House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi’s weekly press conference shifted quickly Thursday morning from tax cuts for the middle class to her own tax returns.

Reporters grilled the California Democrat about a recent McClatchy report that said only 17 of the 535 members of Congress released their tax returns in response to requests by the news organization. Pelosi, who has repeatedly called out Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney for not disclosing more of his tax returns, was not one of the 17.

“That is the custom for the people running for president,” Pelosi said. “I think it’s the relationship between the people running for president and the American people. It’s a decision that the candidate has to make.”

Pelosi insisted the standard is different for candidates for Congress. WHY?

“Let’s not be silly," she said. "A person is running for the president of the United States. His party is calling on him to release his returns.”
“When I run for president of the United States, you can hold me to that standard,” she added. Why not now?

Why just the President? Why not every elected office holder?
Trump
  • Worked for free as president donated his salary to charity
  • Employs 22,400 people
  • Paid $10.6 million in property taxes
  • 4.6 million new jobs as President from 2017-2019
Biden
  • 52 years on the government payroll
  • Zero employees
  • Paid $17,000 on 4 properties
  • Zero new jobs created people going back to work after shutdown still 2 million short of 2019

I strongly agree with Philanderer, Hedonist and the Waco Kid. The government has no business making any citizen's tax returns public record.

That said, I can't wait to see the returns. Trump, a billionaire, managed to pay a trifling amount in income taxes over the last 6 years. There are undoubtedly posters on this board who are worth far less than Trump, but who paid more federal income tax.

Here's what he made and what he paid. AGI is adjusted gross income.

2020: -4.8 million AGI, $0 tax
2019: 4.38 million AGI, $133,445 tax
2018: 24.339 million AGI, $999,466 tax
2017: -12.918 million AGI, $750 tax
2016: -32.4 million AGI, $750 tax
2015: -31.8 million AGI, $641,931 tax

Trump has somehow figured out a way not to pay taxes. Maybe it's by losing lots of money, as implied by the numbers above. But I'm not so sure. I suspect he's been legally gaming the system. This would explain why he was so gung ho to raise tax rates back when he officially was a Democrat. And why he initially proposed in 2017 to raise the tax rates on upper income earners. Gary Cohn, a Democrat who was Trump's chief economic advisor had to talk him out of it. Reportedly he said, "You can't raise taxes Mr. President. You're a Republican." If you've figured out a way not to pay tax, then you don't care what the tax rate is.

Trump generated a ton of carried forward tax losses when his casinos failed. Investors, chiefly bond holders and banks, loaned him a ton of money, and he subsequently lost a ton of money. He defaulted on his debt. Normally when that happens, you have to declare "forgiveness of debt income" on your tax return. Trump somehow, legally, got around that. So he had carried forward tax losses from the failed casinos that he could use to shelter income for years to come, even though it was the banks and bondholders that lost a fortune, not Trump.

The carried forward losses would have expired by now though. So it's going to be interesting to see what Trump came up with to replace them.

Just for those who have problems with reading comprehension, I am not sure what Pelosi has to do with what other presidents have done, which is to be transparent. Trump refuses to be transparent. The old orange fat lawsuit filing crybaby bitch is forced to be transparent now.

Enough of that man's bullshit. If you want to be the most powerful man in the world, be transparent. If you don't, just continue to rip off morons with your superhero NTF's and think of some other creative scams to take these fools' money and live in peace at one of your highly leveraged mansions... last time I checked, Nany Pelosi is neither the president nor a candidate to be president. She's just an annoying old hag with a powerful public voice and obviously a powerful figure in congress who hates Trump.

Edit for below: Damn TWK, you sure gave yourself two likes quickly for that brilliant rebuttal. You must have really been impressed with yourself.

The Trump Tax returns tell us nothing, absolutely nothing.

You could have 10 accountants and 10 IRS agents audit Trumps returns and they would come up with 20 different tax amounts owed. That is how complicated the tax code really is.

I'm an "all or no one" kind of guy'. Again, this is not a defense of Trump but defense of law or what law should be which is "what can legally be done to one, regardless of status, should be done to all regardless of status".

Why wouldn't you want to see Pelosi's and McConnell's tax returns?

I have no problem at all releasing Trump's returns as long as everybody and I do mean everybody is subject to the same law. Remember "equal justice under the law"? Does that mean anything to you?
