Is it that AJ Hinch and Jeff Luhnow knew nothing about this, but because of their ignorance, got suspended and fired ?
Or is it because they knew about it, but did nothing to stop the players continuing with it after they learned about it.
They knew.
Have you seen some of the YouTube videos that point out the signaling. It was obvious what was going on. No wonder the Yankees were raising hell.
Supposedly, Hinch on two occasions, tried to disable the display that was being fed from the camera and the players or a coach fixed it. I'm not sure I believe that story.
Heads had to role. MLBPA would have fought it for years and some young superstars, faces of the game actually like Altuve, would have been tarnished. That would be bad for baseball in their infinite wisdom I guess. Hinch and Lunhow had to be the scapegoats. They were more easily disposed of. As in most things, follow, or in this case consider the money.
What about that tape of Altuve telling teammates not to remove his shirt, while he was headed toward home plate after a homer ? A wire underneath ?
Nah,
His story about the shirt is resonable.
Doesn't matter though. The players aren't going to have to face any music. Not from MLB anyway. History may judge them differently. Altuve guaranteed another appearance in the WS this year. They will be under intense scrutiny all year and then especially if they actually make it to the series. There won't be any cheating. Win it all and this will be a distant memory.
