When the work finishes later this year, this refinery will become the largest in the United States. It will have the capacity to process up to 325,000 barrels per day of heavy sour oil. The United States is not a significant producer of heavy sour oil. Countries that are expected to increase their production of this difficult-to-process crude include Canada (tar sands), Venezuela, Colombia, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait among others. So the subsidy received by this refinery is directly to enable the processing of a particularly dirty form of oil that is not produced in America.
Hmm, what was it pipeline proponents, including the owners of these refineries, were saying about reducing dependence on oil from hostile and unstable countries?
refine oil where, in one of the new refineries the oil companies refuse to build or let anyone else build ?

Business manager Danny Hendrix for the Pipeliner’s Local 798 in Tulsa — which represents about 7,000 workers across the U.S. — says more than 650 workers from the union could work on the project.

Hendrix says about 350 union members worked on the southern leg of the pipeline that has opened and is carrying crude oil from Cushing to the Texas Gulf Coast.

They can't get permits due to onerous environmental restrictions, not because they are blocking themselves or others from building.

Antitrust actions like that to restrict supply would lead to treble damages. Not worth the risk.

Also, are you saying that Clinton and Obama - not to mention both Bushes - do the oil companies bidding?

its a Canadian company, Canada brings their own employees... why would a Canadian company want to pay unemployment benefits to American workers when a short term job is finished ? better yet, why would YOU want to pay unemployment benefits to hundreds of American workers after the pipeline has been built ??? so you can bitch about paying unemployment benefits to workers too lazy to get off their ass and find another job???

so lets shove light sweet crude oil to the back of the line because this country uses light sweet crude exclusively, and replace it with heavy sour crude from Canada because Canada can't sell that oil here benefiting other countries and Canada oil sales/profits .... got it.
