Virus Blocking Eccie

There is very selective virus blocking the Eccie board.

Apparently, my main computer is infected with it.

I was only able to log on with my laptop.

If anyone else encountered this problem and knows how to fix, post the solution.

. . . I've already tried a number of the standard remedies like running Malwarebytes.

Not a virus...but a..."things that make you go hmmnnn...." moment.

I think there are some "public" Internet sites that are keeping a rather close eye on traffic to this site. Am at a hotel in STL this weekend - bouncing between this site & one similar - when, rather suddenly, I lost internet access.

Suspecting a loose ethernet plug, I called the tech support...went through trouble-shooting...only to discover my hotel IP had been dropped into a MAC filter. Tech started asking a lot of questions about what sites I was on & what I was doing when it crapped out. He took me out of the filter bucket but suggested that, perhaps, I might want to ease up on how many browser windows I had open, etc.

Interesting...

Ok this is the 4th time I have had to clean virus infections on my main computer, and subsequently seems to be affecting my mobile devices. The AVG and Malwarebytes say Trojan.Spatek and something called Riskware. To

Only happens when I come onto this site..folks

I did have a similar incident to what FG describes happen to me last year on my laptop. I did a computer reset to an earlier date, and that seemed to work fine.

I'm typing on the desktop at my apartment right now, which is new and has numerous safeguards, but lately I am noticing a "hesitation" when I log in from my older home computer, and sometimes when I land on ECCIE it just freezes up. (Doesn't on any other site.) Did a reset on that one a couple of days ago just in case, and upgraded my virus software.

It's well-known that hackers are constantly messing with this site just for kicks. I imagine ECCIE must spend a lot of money trying to keep the place protected.

Try a different browser instead of mozilla try internet explorer?
yeah u need a different browser. never had a virus come from eccie....been on here long time and aspd for years. im sure your doing something other than surfing net with pc. most viruses don't come from website browsing but more so downloading and uploading peer to peer.

mobile wise....same thing.....pretty hard to infect android and apple so i wonder what has been moved off laptop to mobile device.
As I posted previously, no virus is causing what FG described in his first post or his follow up after my post. I use a combination of G Data and Eset, and others, with absolutely no issues or warnings when on this site. Clicking on graphics, d/l’ing those graphics, going to porn sites, that is where you will get viral infections which is the same thing windowshopper wrote. The fact that some of the posters in this thread report having viral attacks is most likely happenstance irrespective of the claim that this site is the only site one of those posters visits before the attack

Long and short, I am having no issues and I come here often.

In regards to the claim of external attacks on Eccie’s website, of that I have no doubt is a frequent occurrence and results in issues for the administrators of the site, tech admin, not board admin necessarily. However, it is a far different colored horse to write that an attack on the website is causing something like a DOS than it is to make the unverified, and unqualified, claim that a virus has infected the board and is infecting the membership. Putting my forensics hat on, I would start looking at those making that claim while verifying if it has any accuracy for a number of reasons, but that is me.

I have to take serious issue with you on this matter. I have gone through these computer problems several times and each time it has been hell to restore my system.

The fact is that the Eccie site is often the target of hackers hoping to dissuade members from using the site by whatever means.

When your browser is hijacked, the last thing I would advise is to use another browser. That will only open another door for the virus and increase the corruption rate of your computer. Get off the offending site immediately and begin cleaning your system because otherwise it will only get progressively worse.

I am now of the opinion that the Eccie staff tends to downplay these incidents so as not to scare people away, but that is not helpful.

When you suspect that your computer has been infected, you must immediately get off the site and begin cleaning your computer with the usual anti-virus programs, but these virus are usually not run of the mill types and professional may be necessary.

. . .Good luck and stay vigilant. It is a constant battle!

I have seen the same thing with Facebook as they are updating, I have also seen the same thing here, with the speed of my internet connection (home and with the phone) Just because you think you have a fast internet connection, does not really mean you have one, some days, depending on the time of the day, you might be going a little faster than dial up, then 20 minutes later, you are going full bore again...

Just my nickles worth, if that helped.....

Also make sure your operating software is up to date Windows etc, check your control panel for updates.
If all else fails I reboot my computer. I have not had a problem with this site, but I also don't download or look at other porn sites or shareware sites except download.com.

The fundamental problem is the state of the internet today.

The internet is like a dangerous pirate sea running amok with hackers spewing out viruses, trojans and other malicious software.

. . . I recently downloaded some software from another site, but the damn thing totally reconfigured my browser and it was hell getting all that crap uninstalled!
