And you believe the brainwashing of the Heritage Foundation. Marxism/Socialism isn't inherently bad anymore than Capitalism is inherently good. They both have their good and bad points. It's in the implementation where you get into trouble.

Some socialized policies I think are better than what we have now. For instance socialized medicine. What they have in Canada or the UK is better than what we have here in America.

But your idea that we're going to hell in a hand basket if someone espouses some socialist ideals is just a little crazy. Originally Posted by txdot-guy

Do you think that these countries are marxist/socialist? Have they been ruined?
I think not. Why can’t the United States do the same?

Most of it centers around a conflict between those that can afford the very best in health care and those that can not.

Even though I am a Veteran, I do not go to any VA facilities. I still have lingering problems in my lower legs from the injuries I sustained in Vietnam, but I can afford and have the very best health care available. Even though I am 77, I only have Medicare A, which is required by law. I do not have B or C because I have a substantial income which puts the cost of those at a rate that is even higher than my personal insurance.

With universal health care, the fear of people like me is I will not be able to get what I am willing to pay for now. There is no way the Country can afford the very best in health care for everyone, so what in all likely hood will happen is they dumb down the entire system.

Maybe this would create sort of a “black market” for healthcare.

Of course, what will really happen is the Government will set up a system much like the income tax, where those that can afford it will pay substantially more for the Government Healthcare, subsidizing those that can’t.

This is getting close to the “from each according to his abilities, to each according to his needs.”

I would be all for universal health care if the Government would guarantee I would get the same service I enjoy now at the same price I am paying now.

I guess we can discuss the insurance companies in another thread. After all, they seem to be the ones controlling health care.

As you watch Fox News just remember per their own lawyers” they are not a news channel. They are an entertainment channel. Any intelligent person would know the things they broadcast are not factual.” They paid a billion dollars for spreading false information.

As it stands currently, I've chosen a different path and gone in for concierge healthcare. I don't remember the last time I waited for an appointment. I'm fortunate that's an option for me. Most folks can't or don't want to afford that.
Friends and colleagues tell me that making a routine appointment at the VA or anywhere else can take months.

Oh well. Like you said..off topic.

Some limited form of medical care might make sense but those in Canada and UK that can afford it (and most likely other countries) come to the US and other countries to get their health care needs taken care of. Friends from Canada on waiting lists from 2 to 10 months that would be taken care of in weeks here.

Might be in favor of lowering Medicare availability to citizens who have reached 62 but then Medicare payroll tax goes from 1.45% to 1.80% or more in my opinion.

But we digress from Timmy, the Manchurian candidate. Socialism is not something we really want except in possibly in very limited application as discussed here.

Shared ownership of “the means of production” is socialism by folks who don’t know shit and want power. Forced Robin Hood by folks who strangle the means of production and take his/her cut.

Capitalism works.

The countries txdot-guy listed practice "social democracy" which is much different from "socialism". A person pays higher taxes while working and gets much better benefits when retired. People in those countries retire at a much younger age than the average person in the U.S. and have more money in retirement than the average person here. Has nothing to do with strangling the means of production. And Democratic Socialism is NOT Marxism. Not even close.

Social Security is Socialism and my wife and I make over $65,000 a year from it. Many people in this country have ONLY Social Security in their golden years.
