Seriously though apparently the movie didn't do the book justice. I thought I was watching a cross between the HBO series Real Sex and a movie from the Lifetime Movie Network (LMN). It was decent but I didn't get the Hollywood production pop I was expecting based on the book raves. For this script I think the producers wanted to go away from "main stream" of the main stream actors and go with famous yet lesser known types so as to the give the movie it's own identity in a sense. It could have also been budget constraints as going with lesser known actors means they won't demand higher salaries with each subsequent movie release. There were 3 books so this movie will likely be the first of three especially considering how the movie ended.
The main characters (Christian and Anatasia) were decent but not very strong actors. I think for the male role either Ryan Gosling or Alex Pettyfer would have given way stronger performances over Jamie Dornan. I was ok with the the lead female role Anatasia played by Dakota Johnson. Even though she was very nice to look at on screen I can't say that she gave a very strong performance even though it was better than Christian's. According to the book Anatasia was emotional and sexy at all the right moments but I just wanted to see more. The Anastasia type is someone I could see myself dating in the real world and I thought for this movie she fit the mold of the book better than Jamie Dornan did for CG.
There were ample sex scenes but they didn't really match the intensity of the book. For example not once did Christian make Anatasia cum. They had sex, did submissive / dominant scenes where he spanked her little ass while she showed her tits and some bush but there was no major orgasmic moments. At one point during the sex scenes it started to get frustrating because he kept tying her up in Dominant style but it started to get boring I wanted to see her cum with that pretty face of hers. lol
The other thing you didn't get from the movie that you got from the book were the multiple soliloquies by each actor so that kinda took away from it. There's also something else I noticed that may be getting a bit into psychoanalysis. In the book Christian Grey had a black personal trainer who was introduced several times throughout the book. At one point I was told it was suggested that this trainer (Black guy) would eventually work with Anastasia as CG saw fit.
I think the screen writers left this black character (from the book) out of the movie because he was likely more fit and better looking than Christian Grey since he was his personal trainer. Imagine introducing a black character that most women go crazy over adding the complexity of interracial stigma (overtures) to the American movie audience. It would have completely undermined Christian Grey in my opinion and most of the audience would have been thinking she must want to fuck the black guy. lol
In summary, I thought it was an ok movie maybe right at 5 / 10. Since I watched the first one I would probably go back to watch the sequels.
