I think an authoritarian government in this age of surveillance and large data with modern armies can in fact control any uprisings.

It wouldn't even need to be coordinated. When those that think they can knock down doors with impunity have start their days in the knowledge that many of them won't be coming home that night... that will put an end to any attempted gun grab or round up of personnel. the situation in china is different.
the people there have been under communist rule since 1950. they're running a form of demo-cide type of oppression in Tibet & of Uighurs in Xinjiang (interesting, they're caucasian turks) and with other enthic groups in other areas.. they've been under some form of surveillance state since that time. they're now ramping up to unheard levels of surveillance in a bid to create a digtial pan-opticon society.
China is acting more and more like Nazi Germany from what I'm reading news coming out of china.
the weapons are readily not available to the masses like USA. They have to get those weapons from the black market. the only area of resistance is in northwest Xinjiang with Uighurs and in Tibet.
That army China has is something of a paper tiger. they're not their just for their nation's defense but people control.
one should be guarded but dems don't have their ducks in a row to achieve this. their dream is to control the house, the senate, the president, the courts and state government. like what happened in Venezeuala.
that is not to say they never had control of all 5 parts of the government in the past, they prolly did for a brief time. but this was a very different group of people in times of antiquity.
Republicans have come close tho to achieving it the 2nd time. Last time that happened was in the late 1800 after the civil war with the republicans having an 18 year rule over the country.
