I was going to post something earlier, but didn't because I missed VI's post which was basically my conclusion. Anyways, just to voice in, I think Ashi and VI are right.

It's techy, but an open encryption algorithm is the most secure way to go (afaik). That means generating keys and using software for r/w access to an encrypted file (or files on an encrypted file system). My instinct is not to trust closed software in this area. Maybe the software company has a backdoor that they will use if presented with a warrant? Maybe there's some important line in the TOS I skipped over when I clicked 'next'? Don't forget about paper trails (did you register or pay for space somewhere? then there's probably a way to get from you to what you payed for and vice-versa).

I think VI's suggestion is worth trying (create a code for yourself). After all, from what I could tell LE has some trouble decrypting information from inmates, which is basically letters and notes on toilet paper. Make it painful enough where it's not worth the effort to decrypt.

Some heuristics:
* favor sentences over single words.
* favor higher multiplicty - many different things that correspond to one thing.
* favor variation - don't reuse the same words/phrases too often.
* personalize it - things are harder to interpret by someone that isn't you
* don't include hard information (email/phone numbers/real names/dates)

Ideally, your little black book would read like a writing exercise. I'm no Jack London, but here's one example of what I was thinking:

- A grasshopper rides a turtle, in the shadow of the bear. Naked in the wild, it looks for honey, then fish with sticky paws and fur. Twisting in the wind, but barely a leaf around.
- reserved large gentlemen. full nudity. likes oral then fs. likes to touch/be touched. likes attention to nipples. g-string, next-to-nothing, or nothing dress.

(would be more obscure if it was personalized, but then harder to understand as an example, so made it a nature poem instead)
