This is a disgusting tragedy. That guy needs to go to jail for a long, long time. Repulsive.

Your initial post is part of the answer. You, a faux black man, wants to make this into something other than what it is. Yes, I said faux. You try too hard to speak with an accent rather than just misspell trying to get the right words. You want to sound like an idiot, and you succeed.

Anyway, the first time I heard this story my thinking was that Zimmerman is a wannabe. He is a "self appointed watch Captain" is the first clue. A neighborhood watch I can see but when you insist on a title then you go a little far. The story is still breaking. Last night it was the 9-1-1 calls, today it is the account of Treyvon's girl friend on the phone with him. My original thought is being reinforced that Zimmerman is an irresponsible person looking for some kind of fame.
Now for the left; Zimmerman looks pretty guilty but the left is going after a Florida law and the NRA. They will carry the bloody body of this young man around to show on camera (figuratively speaking) in order to advance their agenda. Sharpton invited the family on his show to use them as props for his attacks. The family of Treyvon does not condemn the law (not yet anyway) or anyone but Zimmerman and the police department. The police department is the second most guilty looking party in this death. Poor investigation, racist police, a law that binds their hands...we don't know yet.

Right now, from what we know on the afternoon of the 21st of March, George Zimmerman looks guilty of being an idiot, the police look guilty of doing a poor job at the best, and a young man was killed for no good reason. The NRA is not at fault and the law is not at fault so why is the US DOJ so interested in this case?

JD, you certainly don't think that our "beyond reproach" Attorney General Holder would ever use a senseless tragedy to make political points, do you?

That would be so inconsistent for AG John Mitchell, er, sorry, I mean, Eric Holder. (Honest mistake.)
While it should make no difference as to the final outcome of this case, Zimmerman is now being described as "Hispanic", being the product of a White Father and a Latina Immigrant. It has been reported that he spoke to the Police in both English and Spanish.

Why would it make a difference? If the Latin American Community rallies around Zimmerman and deplores the Justice Department for going after a Latino, the Obama administration might sense a huge shift in a major voting block, ie, Hispanics, and make a call to the Attorney General to back off.

It would have all been so convienient if this Zimmerman would have been a simple Redneck.
So true. And as Af-Freakin has so eloquently noted, since Zimmerman is Hispanic and a minority, he cannot be a racist. But with a last name like Zimmerman you can see why Freakin might have presumed his heritage. Maybe he's 50% redneck.
Don't get me wrong, if Zimmerman turns out to have broken the law in the death of this young man, then I think he should be prosecuted to the fullest extent.

I am just pointing out that often things are not as "black and white" as it might seem.

I'll bet Eric Holder is dissapointed it wasn't a white male Tea Party/NRA member. Holder would federalize the case in a heart beat if it was.

Come on, we all know he is that old, fat guy, Marshall. It's not really a secret.
Marshall, errrrr AF, is our friend. He makes mockery of liberal viewpoints...encourage him, give him a hug!
This is a very, very sad case. It still astounds me that Zimmerman was never arrested. While it is debatable if he said 'fucking coons' or 'punk' there should be no question that a tragedy occurred. This poor young boy was killed, taken from his family, robbed of his future for all due to the overzealous actions of George Zimmerman who has never even been arrested! This was not self defense! This was murder!!! Originally Posted by sensualsanaa

Yes this guy Zimmerman based on the 100's of phone calls to the police he made was racial profiling and said at one point in the phone call to the police "they all get away with this shit".

I am glad that the FBI and the Federal Government are investigating and pursuing a hate crime case. I hope they are successful because that is what this is. My hope also is that they force Florida to change this law because they have records of more than 30 some odd cases of people murdering others in this same way with no witnesses to say what really happened and therefore the law allows law enforcement to close the book on these cases without further investigation or interrogation.

I don't think it is the law as much as how it is being implemented. Texas also has the "stand your ground law." In my CHL (concealed handgun license) class, I was instructed that if I shot someone, I would be arrested, and the case would be presented to a grand jury. Only then, would it be determined whether or not I acted in self-defense. That seems fair to me. I don't understand why this Zimmerman guy was not arrested in the first place.

I used to work construction in Miami.
We caught some guys stealing electrical fixtures off the jobsite one night. The police came, took down some information, and cut the guys loose.
One of my crew was assualted with a vehicle, and the police did nothing.
A tow truck driver assaulted one of the electricians, and the police did nothing.

What was the common factor? The perp was latin. South Florida is as corrupt as it comes, and the latins (mostly cuban) cover for each other. The latins run everything.

If the shooter is put on trial in south florida, their is no way he will be convicted. There could be video of him killing the kid execution style, and he would walk.

Number one, the law is not old or outdated (2005). The original sponsor has written that the law was proposed in response to a home owner who parked an RV on his front yard after a hurricane. He was there to protect what was left of this house from looters. A looter broke into his RV and attacked the home owner. The home owner shot the attacker dead. The local law held this over the head of the home owner for almost a year because of the lack of a law protecting the homeowner. So if someone comes into your house, you don't have to retreat like in some states but can "stand your ground" and protect your home and family. Is that a problem with you?
