As the old saying goes: Sax Sells

I love that song (album is pretty good overall too) and the sax is solid. Great choice.

You want soul?

It's not horrible, but seems more like a piano song with 'breathy' background of sax. Not too undifferent from a snare drummer using brushes instead of sticks, which would not count the same as an AC/DC drum solo.Certainly adds depth to the piano lead and it does not suck. Not quite the same as Clarence playing a sax at 1,000+ PSI.

Got it! On the money.

Your move.

In rock, Tom Scott's playing on Carole King's "JazzMan", Billy Joel's Just the Way You Are (Phil Woods)". Soul/funk Maceo Parker, WAR's Charles Miller (my 2nd Fave sax man).
Can't believe I forgot to mention Wayne Shorter. He passed away last week. Played on multiple Joni Mitchell albums from the mid-70s onward, and on Steely Dan's "AJA".

Are you seriously telling me, them, they, us and all ya'll that Clarence Clemons, aka the big man, doesn't rock a sax?!? Come on Man!

Unfortunately, his solo is a short one at the end.

To really get a feel for his playing, here is a longer (10:00+) jam.

To the CC question, guide me to him playing the sax like Charles Miller, Carole King, or whatever you think is his best. Some sax players are "honkers" loud & muscular, but IMO the sax is refined.

Solid stuff. Will give them a listen, though I am familiar with most of the WAR ones. Low Rider was the featured song in one of the few Nicholas Cage movies that I like and has solid sax throughout it.

I tend to learn more towards Blues than Jazz. Some Jazz just gets a bit to schizo for me. But I sure to like a lot of it - so go figure. A movie example would be "Blue Lou" Moreno playing behind Aretha Franklin (literally) in the Blues Brothers.

You can skip ahead to the 2:40 mark to get straight to the music part, but I like the banter in the lead up. What can I say?

Clemons' anthem version is soft and subtle. Not sexty. But I guess you don't want to go there with a national fight song. It does sell though. Not as well as Jimmy's guitar, riff-like, version. Not so patriotic, just personal.

The live stage clip is too drowned out to be appreciated. From the looks of it, as opposed to the sound, he is putting his heart and soul into it. As the end of the clip evidences. The crowd cheers and hollers.
