Seems difficult to "measure" the inherent quality of any given post. As Supreme Court once said, "know it when i see it"... seems inadequate, and subjective.

One objective measurement system (tool in this context) would be to simply divide the number of POSTS by the number of REVIEWS. In the case of the OP approximately 165 posts, per 1 review. 1:165.

There has always been and always will be change. What has been lost IMO is contribution of useful information by many that have tired of having every thread turned into a zoo..... Honestly Rick.... What do YOU need here any more? A lot of us have been around long enough to be well connected and part of different circles and cliques that we get all the information we want and need..... People stumble upon some great little piece of information only to mention it and many simply think to themselves "What took YOU so long?"

years ago there was information..... Controlled.... Stifled.... corrupted... but information..... "FUN" was defined by most as flirting......

Some wanted to see it change and it went in a different direction.......

I've watched you get upset with others in threads suggesting the research and read rather then just giving them a PM with an answer...... You like to stir shit so that you can be a part of it but what good is it to stir up a pot of shit that no one has any real interest in?

Yes information and subjects get rehashed over and over and over and noobs will always be noobs...... Guided they eventually learn..... continuously put down.... welll it gives others the idea that to be in with the cool kids they need to act like know it all fucks and run rampant....


As you log more and more time on these sites you take turn in one direction or another but it either becomes important to you to stick around and try to guide it or you leave it to others....

This is what it looks like without credible guys and gals that stick around to be a part of things and set the mood for the clubhouse.....

This is what it looks like without people participating that have a purpose rooted in the hobby itself.....

I took SO MUCH from these communities.... LEARNED so much from others that I felt for a long time I wanted to stick around...... Every year I met new people.... made new friends.... connected with others that had similar tastes......

That seems to have reached a point of saturation and it's been a long time since I met someone here that I thought was a guy I needed to know for some reason....

But like I asked earlier..... Why do you care? What do you need here?

I decided that I can read and gather what I want, research who I want....and make decisions with assistance from plenty of people and that there were plenty of others that could speak to the subjects I felt the need to speak about.....

I also decided that the new crop..... the guys that feel the need to step up and become the new celebrities....... Well.... I can admit that there are plenty here that probably need to trip over their own feet and fuck up some aspect of their life to ever "get it"

I don't think any of them will ever have what some of us do. They lack the ability to do it on their own or they are of a mindset that they care only about getting a reaction...

The OP raises helpful point, with some wry irony arising from fact that significant of volume has been delivered by the OP, more than double that of Homer with less than 1:100.

Trees and most of the community can fairly easily "screen out" the noise without too much fuss. Being - as it is - a forum on the internet.

How do you moderate a community you are not sure of whether or not you want to be a part of? I've never cared for moderators that are unwilling to actually participate in the community and events and sit on the sidelines making judgements based solely on what they read. You can never remotely know the real value of people's contributions from that point of view.

I think you have your work cut out for you because you are too distant to actually get in touch with it all....

I think a part of what is is wrong lies in the "privacy" part of your comments..... This site has gotten too "big" too fast" in a way that is not really community oriented..... Traffic is getting driven from links and ads not remotely "Austin" in nature bringing people into the mix with none of the typical concerns that formed the communities...

If I may add something serious to this discussion: We must all remember that this is a hobby and not a way of life.

Generally, these girls sign on, book appointments, make their money, sign out and go back to their real world. Typically, it is us guys that linger on these boards long after, looking for whom knows what?

What I'm trying to say is that if we keep our distance or balance as the ladies do, then I'm sure we would all care a lot less about what is posted in these forums.

Here is my observation as a relative newbie, who tries to be active on the boards with information and yet have some FUN and probably is guilty of all the accusations in one way or another:
1) ECCIE is great to find information about providers, rarely do ALL of us lie in the reviews (yes there are some).
2) I find incredible useful info about hobby related stuff !
I want to Thank ALL of YOU for these two points.
3) This is a hobby and it should be fun, so a good joke or some nasty comments are actually ok for me, AS LONG as they relate to the topic and the post whore also includes some useful info in the thread.
4) Drama sucks
5) Long endless posts, especially about the good old times SUCK
6) Going after each other about anything here SUCKS
7) You who think you own all the threads and want them run your way are SPOILING it for the rest of us
8) You who want to bully others... IT SUCKS to infinity !!!
9) MODs should have clear guidelines (I still don't know how the point system works for example) and make clear statements in clear sentences.
Another hint for the MODS: When you post as a MOD say so. When you post as a hobbyist say so.
