The finance minister, 63, and a small group of senior figures from his left-leaning Social Democratic party (SPD) have begun talks with the Green party and the pro-business Free Democrats (FDP) over a possible alliance.
He faces competition from Armin Laschet, 60, and the conservative Christian Democratic Union (CDU), who are courting the same two parties but have a weaker negotiating hand after their general election defeat last week.

It's funny how people leave Socialist Country's and come to America seeking a better life. I say that takes a brave person to leave their home country and embark on a life in another land. Then there are those in America who want Socialism here advocating it for equality and fairness that Capitalism can't offer. I wonder what an immigrant from a Socialist Country thinks of that idea. Maybe she could have offered up a little poontang to Vlad to get the gas flowing again. This new guy Olaf has nothing to offer. Vlad's got all the cards. It's going to be a cold winter in Berlin if Germany doesn't bend.
