Shortly after World War II, Colorado Springs CO faced a situation similar to the one that we now face on a national level. The city was run by a thoroughly-corrupt political machine. The machine was thoroughly entrenched.
Heinlein, and others, Got Involved. It took them a few years. They won. They successfully ran candidates against the machine. They took back The Springs. That book was a pamphlet he wrote at the time, for people who wanted/needed to do something similar in THEIR town.
Maybe you haven't noticed, but Barney Frank is not running for re-election.
Maybe you weren't paying attention, but Ted Kennedy's old Senate seat is now filled by a Tea Party Republican.
