Pelosi and Cuomo Sign Gun Confiscation Bill into New York State Law

When there are tragedies in which a gun is used, gun rights advocates say don't blame the gun, blame the person carrying the gun. When a state does its best to keep a gun out of the hands of someone who is deemed to be mentally unstable and might use that gun to kill someone, it is a violation of his 2nd Amendment rights.

"The law allows that “family members, school administrators, and law enforcement officials can seek to get guns confiscated from people deemed by courts to be an ‘extreme risk’ to themselves or others.”

"If initially approved by a judge, the individual would be banned from buying, possessing or attempting to buy firearms for up to six days. During that time, a hearing would have to be held on extending the length of the order up to one year."

Yes, the new law is judgmental and subjective. But I would rather see error on the safe side.

Or do you have a problem with people with mental problems who may potentially use their legal weapons to kill someone being stopped?

Then a court decides if the petition is valid. Upside -- a few lives might be saved. Downside -- an individual would be without his/her gun for usually a short period of time.

True story. A family member was a teacher who taught problem children in HS. She taught one student who she thought would be very dangerous at some point. No action taken. Student killed his father.

Can’t read the story for all the pop ups on this “news site.”

The story really doesn’t explain the law, or why Pelosi was signing it.

Until you provide a little clarity, TDL, I’ve gotta call BULLSHIT. Originally Posted by Yssup Rider

Put your brain in gear before you put you mouth in gear...the left is always symbolism over substance...redundant LIKE I SAID!!
I know this because I have seen plenty of documentary's on mental health and law enforcement in the judical system...you make it seem so simplistic...it isn't!!
There are so many variables involved in this.
I love the "gun free zones"...when crimes happen there the left wing loons scratch their heads and wonder...how could that have happend in a gun free zone...IT WAS A LAW...Hummmm
The law of unintended consequences...this is feel good shit from the left!!

I read it and at no time is the word "gun", or any similar word, mentioned. The intent of the law already in affect is:

"These laws give law enforcement officers and others the right to involuntarily admit someone into a mental health care facility if they are in danger of harming themselves or others because of a mental illness."

The new NY law relates SPECIFICALLY to guns:

"The law allows that “family members, school administrators, and law enforcement officials can seek to get guns confiscated from people deemed by courts to be an ‘extreme risk’ to themselves or others.”

Research may be my friend. Understanding the difference between the 2 laws is your friend. You may disagree with the new NY bill but the purpose of the new bill is very different than the current law.
Yeah right...I see the left has officially indoctrinated you.
I guess by your logic the law should specify...hurt others with...knifes,ice-picks,chains,bats,hammers,cars or guns...take your pick, hell maybe bombs!! So as looooong as the threat is with any other deadly weapon...all's well!!
Lord knows it just those eeeeeeeeeevil guns!!
Fucking get real!!
