Nope. I learned a lot about myself and this world on my two combat deployments overseas. I was always politically and socially minded, but I never really accepted my role in things till then.

The Baby Boomers fucked us...but we Gen X’ers let them do it. We are called the Latchkey Generation, but really we are the Apathy Generation. We stood by and let our parents do it, with almost no complaint or action on our parts to try and stop it. We grew up being taught to respect our elders, and we let that respect turn into apathy instead. It never should have happened.

A few groups have taken up the struggle, and as the world has changed, we realize the monumental failure of our generation in history. Our country didn’t have to be like this, but we stood by and let it happen. Now it’s too late for us. We’re Price Charles. Our parents are in charge, and will be for so long that we’ll never get our chance to turn things around. But our kids will be better, and their kids will turn this place into what is should have been if we’d have done our jobs and told our parents to go fuck themselves and die already.

I apologize all the time to my nieces for my failure...but at least I recognize it. I was able to shrug off my parent’s teachings, society’s teachings, and become my own person who adapted as the world changed. Not many of my generation could, and that’s why we need to go as well.

Patience. This country won’t disappear in fifty years. It’ll be much diminished by what our parents and we do to it, but it’ll still be here. That’s when we’ll be great again. The best thing for women and minorities in this country is for us to die...the quicker the better...
