Just Wondering Why Austin is the Wild West? ...

It could simply be a coincidence but I doubt it. Seems that better than 9 of 10 of these types of incidents occur in cities controlled by democrats. Republicans are certainly not perfect but you can't ignore that fact. Portland anyone? Geesh Originally Posted by CryptKicker

What happened in Austin is tragic but it could have occurred in any city or town in this country. There are many police present on 6th street at that time of night on a weekend but they can't be everywhere.
illustrates the point though that people are responsible for their own safety, and they shouldn't expect that someone will save them.

But I will never say you are wrong to do what you think is necessary to protect your life.
Hint, the bigger the population, the more crime. That's called common sense Originally Posted by Little Monster

Why is Austin the Wild West?
Maybe, because they are on the fringe of the West?
Now, down 35 in my town, that was the Wild West.
Butch Cassidy and Sundance Kid taking up residence here.
And the shooting of Judges. One on the court house steps by a guy on horseback and another while leaving his home in the not too distant past.

We earned the moniker.

Its sad to see Austin turn into a violent toilet.

When I lived there I was free to park my car on Colorado street and meet my friends at the Boat House/Goat house and go back and forth to Halls till we found an after hour party.

It was even safe to go meet friends at the Crossing and walk all over 6th street {Paradise Cafe}.

What does Zilker park look like now? I stayed in the Domain area not long ago and right after it looks like down town Houston with all the homeless people with their tents.

It's a liberal city and it is what it is. So sad.

Unfortunately the number of homicides in the city have skyrocketed over past years for whatever reasons. When you look at where and when the majority of the homicides took place this year, central Austin is rather safe. Most of the homicides occured around the North Lamar and Riverside Drive areas and most occured early in the morning, 12-3 am.

I will be in the central Austin area on Friday night. Certainly not as safe as Cedar Park but I am not worried.

Sanctuary cities will have these high crime rates. Especially when Police budgets have been cut.

The areas listed do have the highest crime rates and have the biggest illegal immigrant population.

Court upholds majority of ‘sanctuary cities’ law

The 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals has ruled that Senate Bill 4 can remain in effect for the time being. Tuesday’s decision will allow the so-called “sanctuary cities” law to take effect while the case against it plays out.

Also, in August a budget was passed with a record high $442 million allotted to Austin police.

What is Tokyo's crime rate compared to other smaller cities in Japan?

"a violent toilet"? And what exactly are you basing this assertion from?

When I lived there I was free to park my car on Colorado street and meet my friends at the Boat House/Goat house and go back and forth to Halls till we found an after hour party.

Yeah, and you would still be free to do so if you still lived here.

Yeah, And it is still safe to walk around on 6th street and vicinity. People do it everyday and never have any issues

Zilker Park is still Zilker Park, in fact they're even fixing it up and making it better. Zilker is one of my favorite disc golf courses to play.

The homeless tents are gone, thanks to those of us who voted for prop B

I don't know what kind of conservative fairytales you've been reading and believing but Austin is not what you are trying to make it sound like.

conservative areas are almost always nothing but PWT shitholes. They just did a survey on the worst states to live in and 8 out of the top 10 were red states, gee I wonder why.

Conservative areas are nothing but economically depressed havens for m*** manufacturers.

Yeah, I'll take Austin over a deep red trailer park any day.
